What are the LFG Racing Backcountry Snowmobile Race Events?

The LFG Backcountry Race series combines all aspects of backcountry riding into one fun loop.  The loop consists of tree riding, a timed hill climb section, and a snow-cross style course with berms and rollers. Each race is approximately 5 km in length (6-10 minutes).  All riders start individually at spaced intervals so passing on course is unlikely.

Most of the prize money is awarded to randomly selected relay teams. Each rider is assigned to a 4-person relay team. Organizers make sure pro level riders, snowbikes, and ladies are well distributed amongst teams, otherwise team selection is totally random. The race day is divided into quarters, with one rider from each team competing in each quarter.  Typically, teams will send their weaker riders out first when the track is in the best condition, letting the more skilled riders deal with technical challenges of a degraded course toward the end. At the end of the day, the top three teams take home a trophy and cash prize money.

You can still compete for individual glory. Despite the relay format there is still plenty of opportunity to show your stuff. Awards are given for fastest lap (male, female and snowbike), fastest climb (male and female), and a few other randomly selected categories such as sportsmanship and style. The fastest 30 times from the relay part of the event are invited to participate in a pro-lap race that is slightly more challenging than the regular relay loop.  The top 5 times in the pro race are awarded additional cash prizing.

Run what you brung. Yes, you read that right and you did see "snowbike" in the fastest lap awards.  Show up on whatever you prefer to ride.  Share a sled, bring out the retro vibes.  This is all about community, style and (occassionally) speed.
